Seattle City Councilmember Rasmussen’s statement on Port of Seattle funding vote
SEATTLE –Tom Rasmussen, Seattle City Councilmember and council transportation committee chair, today released the following statement on the Port of Seattle funding authorization in support of Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement:
“I congratulate the Port of Seattle Commissioners on their continued commitment to the waterfront. This memorandum spells out the port’s intent to make an investment in the waterfront and viaduct replacement up to $300 million.
“The port’s contribution will support improvements that promote freight mobility and the city’s commuters and neighborhoods that depend on this vital traffic corridor every day. The City of Seattle and regional transportation system needs a collaborative effort and this funding will serve that goal.
“The Council looks forward to the next steps in providing a safe corridor and improving our waterfront with the approved viaduct replacement program that will provide jobs and a continued investment in our state, city and regional economy.”
